Affordable housing for independent seniors. What does that mean?
Affordable | Rent-geared-to-income
“Affordable” can look different to different people. Your rent at any of the properties within the YYC Seniors Housing portfolio will be based on 30% of line 15000 of your most recent Notice of Assessment (Canada Revenue Agency tax document). To qualify for this government subsidized housing your total annual household income cannot exceed $48,000 for a bachelor/studio, $58,000 for a one-bedroom unit, or $67,500 for a two-bedroom unit.
Independent living
These self-contained apartments and townhouses are similar to any mainstream rental units where adults are expected to manage their daily activities on their own.
Tenants in our independent living communities can access additional services and supports as needed from the community at large on a self-funded basis.
A limited number of the housing units are defined as “independent living with supports” which means specific supports (e.g. housekeeping, meal services and programming) are provided at a subsidized rate over and above the monthly rent. “With supports”-designated units are in high demand. Tenants in those units cannot opt out of the supports package.
Seniors
Applicants must be at least 65 years of age and either a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or have proof of refugee status (receiving gov’t benefits) to be considered for housing at any of these properties.
