Why apply through YYC Seniors Housing?
There’s considerable demand for affordable seniors housing in Calgary and a relatively limited supply. Many seniors find themselves submitting separate housing applications to multiple housing organizations. The process can be confusing, time consuming and, with all the duplication of information and required documentation - frustrating and inefficient.
How it works
With YYC Seniors Housing, you submit just one straightforward application to be considered for housing with all four of us: Bethany Care Society, Calgary Heritage Housing, Onward Homes and Silvera for Seniors. You’ll be able to indicate a preference for one or more geographic locations, or even specific properties. The broader your housing search, the sooner you are likely to find suitable rental accommodations.
Check out the Housing Finder to see the portfolio of properties.
Supporting documents
Applications have to be filled out in their entirety prior to submission. You’ll need to include a few supporting documents alongside your application. It will help if you have these on hand before you get started:
Your Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment from the latest tax year
Functional Assessment completed by your medical doctor.
Three months (current plus two previous months) of your bank statements
Waitlist explained
Following a successful phone interview, your name will be added to a single waitlist for housing, shared by all four participating housing organizations. This is a dynamic waitlist based on priority of need.
When a vacancy opens up at any participating housing organization, the next eligible applicant will be selected for an interview. You will only be considered for the properties you have selected in your application. The broader your selection the faster you are likely to be housed.
Applicants will receive a maximum of three separate offers for housing. Declining the first or second offer will not affect your position on the waitlist. If you reject a housing offer for a third time, your name will be removed from the waitlist. Our mandate is to accommodate seniors in genuine need of housing.
