How long will it take me to get housing?

This is probably the most frequently asked question and, while everyone dislikes hearing it and we dislike saying it, realistically the wait can be between 1 - 2 years. Demand for affordable seniors housing continues to grow.

Can I apply before I turn 65 to get on the waitlist early?

No you cannot. Applicants must be 65 or older to apply.

Who can apply for a two-bedroom unit?

There’s an extremely limited supply of two-bedroom units compared to the one-bedroom and studio suites. For this reason, the two-bedroom units are reserved for couples only.

Are pets allowed?

Some buildings allow pets while others do not. There are generally restrictions as to the size and number of pets permitted in pet-friendly buildings. Buildings with a “No Pet Policy” do not allow any kind of pet, be it furry, scaly or feathery.

How do I apply?

To have your application processed as quickly as possible, please apply online. Alternatively, you can download, complete, scan and fax/mail in a paper copy of the application package but doing so will result in longer processing times. Regardless of how you choose to apply, you must include all of the required documentation when you submit your application. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

Does the Housing Finder show current vacancies?

No. The Housing Finder shows you all the properties that match your needs based on the information you provide (e.g. annual income, pets/no pets, accessible unit, studio/one-/two-bedroom, desired supports, location, housing provider). There may not be current vacancies at these locations.

What would be an example of a co-applicant?

A co-applicant is a person who you plan to share the unit with. This is often a life partner but it doesn’t have to be. It can be a friend or a relative. One of you must be at least 65 years old and the other no younger than 60.

If applying on behalf of a client, do I need to include their Notice of Assessment?

Yes. The Notice of Assessment, bank statements and Functional Assessment are required at the time of application. The YYC Seniors Housing application cannot be submitted successfully without these documents. The application form saves as you go though so you can come back to complete the form with the required uploads at any time.

As a senior who is a new permanent resident, am I eligible to apply?

Yes. All permanent residents aged 65 and up, or seniors in the process of becoming permanent residents are eligible.

How long does it take for someone to call for an interview after I’ve submitted my application?

Someone from one of the Housing Providers you’ve selected will reach out to you within 10 business days of having successfully submitted your application.
